Starting a new blog is akin to standing in the street and talking about a subject, hoping that someone will pay attention. Mostly you'll be ignored but sometimes, terrifyingly, people will stop and listen to see if you're saying anything interesting or crazy.
This particular blog is 'mostly' for me. On that metaphorical street, I'm actually in the coffee shop, sketching away quietly to myself and probably listening to music on my iPhone. But, I also know that, from time to time, people will look over my shoulder to see what I'm up to.
My aim is to post once per week with updates and assignments I've been working on. In-between terms I'll post any personal projects I'm working on.
In that sense a blog gives me a nice public space to work in (the metaphorical coffee shop) but allows enough anonymity to reassure the natural introvert in me, while I tentatively present my work to the world.
To stretch the metaphor to it's limit, I've arrived at the coffee shop, I'm finding a seat away from the toilet, before self-consciously unpacking my stuff and getting ready to draw.
If you happen to look over my shoulder while I'm sketching and sipping on my cheap black filter coffee and you draw some kind of inspiration from it, I'll be very happy.
